За свою карьеру он создал десятки хитов, но именно песня с заковыристым названием "Ike's Mood I/You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" больше всего пришлась по душе рэпперам.
Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.
Элементы его трека 1973 года "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More, Babe" были обнаружены на стороне 32 раза. Столько же раз был препарирован "Give it up or Turnit a Loose" Джеймса Брауна (1970). На один шаг их обошел относящийся к столпам стиля фанк коллектив Sly & the Family Stone с песней 1969 года "You Can Make it if You Try".
LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC, Ice Cube, Geto Boys – все они не смогли устоять перед очарованием этой вещицы, а скандально известная на рубеже 90-х марионеточная группа Milli Vanilli цитировала "Ashley's Roachclip" трижды, в том числе и в своем хите "Girl You Know It's True".
Так, например, куда менее простецкий коллектив Zapp, выпустив в 1980 году "More Bounce to the Ounce" к настоящему моменту собрал 50 зафиксированных заимствований.
Знаменитый "The Payback" (1974) Джейса Брауна обскакал Zapp с гандикапом в 15 единиц, а еще один трек Kool and the Gang со скупым названием "N.T.", вышедший на пару лет раньше, достиг отметки 72.
